Welcome to RusticFaithHomestead—where old-fashioned skills meet faith-filled living.
My name is Leslie, and this homestead journey began not on a whim, but with a deeply personal reason: our daughter Nevaeh.
We realized early on that public school just wasn’t working for her. She needed more creativity, more purpose, more depth—and honestly, she was bored. After much prayer and conversation, we made the bold choice to begin homeschooling. That decision changed everything.
In order to be present for her education, I left my job. Suddenly, we had one income and a big need to rebudget our household. As I combed through our expenses, I was shocked to find we were spending almost $300 a month on disposable products—things like paper towels, cleaning wipes, plastic baggies, and more. That’s when something clicked.
I dusted off the old sewing skills I had learned as a girl and started crafting eco-friendly alternatives—from reusable cloth napkins to washable cleaning pads. What started as necessity became passion. I was saving money, living more intentionally, and honoring the Earth God gave us.
But I didn’t stop there.
To cut our grocery bill and improve our nutrition, I decided to start a garden. I poured myself into learning how to grow our own food, and soon our backyard was filled with fresh vegetables, herbs, and fruit. As our harvests grew, so did my knowledge of food preservation—from canning and dehydrating to freezing the bounty for winter months.
Our homestead lifestyle also meant being more mindful of our home energy usage. We began reducing waste, unplugging electronics, line-drying laundry, and leaning into traditional homemaking skills—skills I had once known but lost in the hustle of modern life.
RusticFaithHomestead was born out of these changes—not only as a way to document our transformation but also to help others who want to:
Homeschool with purpose
Live a more frugal lifestyle
Grow and preserve food
Sew and craft sustainable products
Rediscover traditional homemaking skills
And most importantly, honor God in daily life
